When we looked at what direction we had previously decided to aim our music video at (in October when considering the genre of music we would choose). Each genre of music carries a different style and appearance. We wanted to keep to the stereotypical 'alternative young person' type but at the same time make them different from the crowd as they as members of a band would be the TREND SETTERS not TREND FOLLOWERS. It was important on the other hand that they fitted into the current fashions of 2012/13.

This is my friend Becky. We picked her as the lead singer as she isnt shy at all and could cope with the pressures of acting. Also it was imperative that our lead singer was not only female, but also looked the part - i.e. not too young. Becky is quite original anyway and has her own style. I had to pick her out a few outfits that could be related back to our research. As she was positioned at the front of the band, she is the face of it and therefore would receive the most attention from the cameras.
We as a group decided to dress her in a Western-style shirt which gave her a country look which can be seen worn by the lead singer of 'The Lumineers' stereotypically (American Folk band recently hitting the scene). The Levi Strauss jeans (From Rokit, Camden) were also a retro look and had several rips in the sides for a 'rugged' approach - something that can be associated with indie clothing as well as being quite casual as seen worn by Taylor Swift who is an iconic American artist at the moment.. This is then supported by the almost equestrian style boots which were roughed up but at the same time a classic retro leather look - purchased from Bricklane. It was important that we did not make the actors too smart as it would completely undermine our whole fashion background research towards alternative styles. The tights were in fact for lighting purposes as we wanted everything dark at the start and these black colours would assist the effects we wanted to put across in the video.

Max is a friend of Dom's and it was such a bonus that he is such a skilled drummer as it made filming so much easier as he could keep time well. The first thing you notice about Max as a member of the band and would define his character is his glasses. When I went to Reading Fest and watched 'The Black Keys' who are an alternative rock band from the US, the drummer had glasses and it genuinely made him stand out from the others - it was like an intelligent looking unique style that separated him from the other band members. The shirt is a chambray blue 'Farah' which is an alternative brand which was made famous during the 80s in the 'Mod' period (seen in the image to the right). The top button being done up looks smart and fits his image as the cool and calm character of the band. His brown chords from Jack Wills look sophisticated. They arent very popular with young people but he looks like a TREND SETTER. His desert boots look effortlessly classic also and we kept this as a reoccurring factor on all of the male actors so we all had them on. The suede era is coming back into fashion now and as a band we would want to be seen as inspiring this 'renaissance' of suede.

This is me (Luke). I was the guitar player and I also done some vocals. For my part, I changed my hair and done a sideparting - almost mimicking a member of 'The Naked and Famous', the band that wrote our song. I too (like Max) wore Farah and as mentioned, this is a vintage piece of clothing. The bright checks made the video footage much more exciting - taken from the inspiration of Coldplay who regularly use bright colours on their clothing to make their performances seem more exciting and vivid.
I was told by Dom to leave my button undone to make my character seem more laid back and a bit more edgy. To back this up I had 80s style blue acid wash jeans on which were also vintage renewal in Urban Outfitters (according to UK Tribes this fits right into out target audience once again). We then repeated the footwear of Desert Boots which were this time Khaki so they could be seen against the acid wash jeans.
Danny as the keyboard player and synth operator wore a Denim Shirt from All Saints - a brand identified from our research on UK Tribes and interviews as a popular choice. Denim jackets are also wore regularly by one of my favourite bands - 'The Vaccines', who are effortlessly stylish. This was on top of a Fred Perry checked shirt with a button down collar. Fred Perry as a brand like Farah was popular during the 80s and has recently come back into fashion - especially popular with young people (seen worn by Paul Weller ). The checks link back to Becky's outfit and a western look.
Throughout we linked our clothing choices back to our The burgundy chinos, just like my purple shirt, were to provide a contrast of colours as well as something different in terms of legwear. We are all wearing something different and even though me and Becky have jeans on they are a different fit, style and colour. Danny like me too has a combover, keeping up this smart yet casual appearance.
The key to our clothing choices was consistency across the board and I think that by throughly exploring the market we were able to pinpoint our target audience and use their clothing interests to inspire the appearance of our band.
